There was news that PS3’s running Yellow Dog Linux were emulating a lot of games, and in my head I am thinking “Why hasn’t everyone done this before!?” I love the old school Mario games, and you cannot belittle the Sonic games either. These consoles out there are ridiculous to say that they are the ultimate gameing machine, when it is obviously the PC, you can have every cartridge base console emulated with ease, and even some CD based ones if you are really good, and you can easily hook up computers to TV’s now, so there is no reason not to have your PC be your main gaming machine…oh and you can have a rocking media center on the some box co-existing with your games! Yeah yeah PS3 and Xbox 360 say that you can do that kind of stuff, but at what cost?
Emulation is the way to go!
March 9th, 2009Technology isn’t bailing out…
February 17th, 2009I was talking to friend who works at a PC store, the store sells, repairs and any other service for their computers. They are not falling off the grid and begging for a bailout, yet I have been told that when in recession, consumer electronics are the first things people stop buying. And people are still going strong on the video and computer games, are they more important or are we really not in that bad of shape?
Beware the carpel tunnel!
February 17th, 2009For all you hardcore gamers, mobile phone junkies and caffiene loaded blog monkies, you must beware of the carpel tunnel, I googles some remedies (saying ouch with each keystroke) and you need to:
1. Relax your hands/keep them still
2. Raise your hands above your head
3. Take aspirin
4. Put ice on you wrist for a short while
Take care of yourself so you can game and blog for many years to come!
Tower games is the iphone gaming format of choice
February 16th, 2009I can safely say that tower defense games are the killer game app of the iPhone. For me it started with Tap Defense, then for what seemed a brief second it was the Defense Crystal, or something like that. Now I am addicted to ZA! (Zombie Attack), I think that there can be a million ways to repackage this game fomat and I will probably get hooked on most of them.
Console domination
February 12th, 2009It is no secret that gaming consoles are trying to dominate the family room, living room or where ever the largest tv resides in our homes. Many ask which console is going to win, the PS3 plays blue ray, the 360 has some killer games and the Wii is good for exercise, so I guess you really just need to focus on what you want.
As far as I am concerned though, all these options are too locked down as compared to a PC, even though I am a Linux advocate I would say that a Windows PC would have much more functionality than all the before-mentioned consoles combined! No problems with file formats, no problems moving things on and off your media box, pure freedom. I would wager that the PC will dominate, oh and Apple TV is not even in the contest since Apple is the definition of lockdown. Man I hate iTunes….
Retro Gaming, might as well!
February 7th, 2009It amazed me how much money is spent on the newest games and systems. To me games are a chance to relax or kill time, it is harder to relax when every game is around $80 so I simply apply a 5 year rule, being that I get the systems and games after they are five years old. Then everything is cheaper and I get the same utility out of it as the people who paid full price. Just as of late my wife and I are getting bored of the first Halo for the original xbox. My wife still plays the Sims and I am looking into games on Linux that mimic many original Nintendo games. Let me know what all of you out there think.
